Influence of elevation and slope on Touriga Nacional yield and juice composition

In the sloped terraces of the Douro region, higher elevations with southern exposures improved the amount of phenolic compounds at the cost of lower yields, whereas lower elevations with northern exposures increased yields but lowered phenolic quality. These Portuguese authors found that elevations around 330 to 660 feet coupled to southern exposures offered the best compromise.
