Functioning of water vessels in the berry during ripening

The authors prove that the water conduits -the xylem- that connect the berries with the shoot are still functional after veraison, unlike what was originally thought. Even though the article deals with anatomical details of the berry, the findings are a breakthrough that help us understand the processes of ripening and water relations in the berry.
