Impact of soil texture differences on vigor and juice composition

Harvest has traditionally relied on soluble solids readings where a mean value is trusted, but as these authors show, the variation around that mean can be as important a factor in determining wine quality. One aspect that greatly influences the magnitude of that variation  is the presence of extra-small or extra-large vines.
