Gram Stain: Negative

Morphology:

  • Cell: rods with rounded ends, approximately 1.5-1.9 micrometer and 0.5-0.6 micrometer; occur singly, in pairs or in short chains. Motile by means of peritrichous flagella.
  • Colony: light brown to brown colonies.
  • Liquid Growth:

Physiological Traits:

Growth on:  good growth on ethanol, galactose, xylose,; moderate growth on raffinose, maltose; faint growth on arabinose, butanol, glycerol, mannitol, melibiose, sorbitol;  no growth: mannose

Ecological Traits:

Found in nature associated with plant materials; tolerant of  low pH and high concentrations of sugar found on grapes.
