Job Description: POSITION: WINE LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

PAY RANGE: $19.85 - $26.00

POSITION SUMMARY: We’re seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our team. The Lab Technician will work within our state-of-the-art Laboratory performing all enological analyses from the receival of grapes into the winery, to the finished bottle ready product. The Lab Technician will need to perform all analyses efficiently and accurately and will be responsible for managing specific tasks throughout the year, within the laboratory team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform a wide range of laboratory analysis to monitor product quality from the grape stage through bottling in accordance with established procedures. Including but not limited to:
o Monitoring primary and secondary fermentations.
o Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis on incoming fruit.
o Chemical analysis including SO2, pH, TA, VA, ML, RS cold and heat stabilities.
• Collect tank and barrel samples of juice, fermenting must, and finished wine for analysis and tasting.
• Prepare and standardize reagents.
• Ensure precision and accuracy of analysis by troubleshooting, calibrating, and standardizing laboratory equipment, and reagents.
• Record results accurately on data sheets.
• Recognize out of spec wine analysis and act, communicate, reanalyze.
• Maintain lab and equipment in a clean/aseptic and orderly condition.
• Assist in Bottling Line Quality Control checks when necessary.
• Challenge the status-quo and look for new solutions to ongoing challenges or new problems that arise in the laboratory.
• Must be able to work long hours and weekends when needed during harvest.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Tertiary qualifications in Chemistry, Microbiology, Viticulture & Enology, or related field required.
• Knowledge of lab analysis and methodology required.
• One year experience working in a lab environment required, experience in a wine production facility preferred.
• Experience working with laboratory equipment preferred (GC/MS, Admeo, Chemwell, CBOX QC, autotitrators, etc.)
• Must have the ability to multitask and work with changing priorities.
• Ability to self-start, prioritize, and work within time constraints while maintaining a strong focus to quality and attention to detail in a fast paced environment.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Must be a team player and willing to assist others but also able to work independently.
• Must be flexible, punctual, and reliable.
• Adheres to all health and safety protocols put in place.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The lab contains hazardous chemicals. The cellar and barrel warehouse present a challenging environment: hot and cold, wet, slippery, and often noisy. Must be able to walk up and down stairs, ladders, and mobile platforms. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, walk, bend, twist, and be able to lift and carry up to 55 lbs.
