Students in the VEN Graduate Group take advantage of the many opportunities to learn outside of the classroom and laboratory. For a full list of Student Organizations at UC Davis, please visit the Center for Student Involvement.
Davis Enology and Viticulture Organization (DEVO)
Davis Enology and Viticulture Organization (DEVO) is the Department of Viticulture and Enology sponsored student organization. Through DEVO, students can take advantage of opportunities outside the classroom such as immersion trips to wine regions, alumni and wine industry events, educational wine tastings, and scholarships for international internships. The Winkler Dinner, a five course dinner and wine auction held each May, serves as DEVO's annual fundraiser and supports all student activities.
VITIS Tasting Group
VITIS is the student-led wine-tasting group in the Department of Viticulture and Enology. With weekly tastings, students are exposed to wines from various regions of the world in an educational setting. Additional tasting opportunities are also offered throughout the year, often in conjunction with guest speakers or other special events.
American Society for Enology and Viticulture (ASEV)
The American Society for Enology and Viticulture (ASEV) is the largest and possibly the most important professional society in the US wine and grape industries. Members receive the American Journal of Enology and Viticulture and are invited to the group's annual events, including the highly-attended Unified Grape and Wine Symposium (http://www.unifiedsymposium.org/) in January and the Annual Meeting held in June. The Society sponsors a "Best Student Paper" and "Best Student Poster" contest and offers numerous scholarships for students of Enology and Viticulture. Registering for a student membership is inexpensive (approx. $45 a year) and the value of receiving the Journal and attending the meetings is well worth the cost.
