Role Summary:
Nord Vineyard Services is searching for a seasonal Vineyard Technician. Here at Nord, we farm our own portfolio of vineyards and provide vineyard management services to several clients including the Duckhorn Portfolio and Colgin Cellars. Beyond traditional wine grape farming services, we offer new approaches and technologies to elevate our approach to vineyard management. Our integrated pest management program is supplemented by grape powdery mildew spore trapping, insect pheromone trapping, and Geospatial Information System notation. Nord Vineyard Services also participates in various grape growing community groups, as we feel it is crucial to be invested in collaborating with our neighbors in Napa Valley. For all these reasons and more, we feel the right candidate will have a unique opportunity to learn exciting new concepts and skills in viticulture.
Duties of Seasonal Vineyard Technician
• Pest and disease scouting and note taking.
• Fungal pathogen spore trapping.
• Insect trap deployment, collection, analysis and data entry.
• Crop estimations and phenology data collection.
• Harvest activities including maturity sampling and harvest equipment preparation.
• Use of Geographical Information System to implement precision farming and to map vineyard characteristics.
• Red leaf virus symptom photo and tissue collection.
Geographic Region of Work
Sonoma County and Napa County – this role will be focused in Sonoma County and the Southern edge of Mendocino County where we have several vineyards. Some work will also occur in Napa County especially during harvest.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma
• Required to lift and move up to 40 lbs.
• Candidates for this position must have a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
• Provide own method of transportation (compensation will reflect Federal business mileage reimbursement rate).
• Required to drive between various locations.
• Required availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary.
Compensation
Compensation rate will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.
Preferred Qualifications
• Grape pest and disease identification and general viticulture knowledge.
• Computer skills: Microsoft Office, Excel, Arc GIS or qGIS Mapping, Google Drive and other cloud storage services, use of app-based task tracking.
• Basic operation experience including agricultural equipment, trailers, trucks, etc.
• Experience with some agricultural commodity and/or production operation.
