We invite all our Alumni and their guests to join the the UC Davis Department of Viticulture & Enology as we celebrate our past and embrace our future, at our new home in the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science. Bring a bottle of your favorite wine and meet up with hundreds of UC Davis V&E Alumni as we celebrate your accomplishments and enthusiastically break ground for the Department's new LEED Platinum winery, the first of its kind in the world. You'll really want to hear about this!
Admission? Just that bottle of wine(s) to share with everybody.

The day's festivities will include:

A series of presentations highlighting the colorful history of the Department of Viticulture and Enology; the future direction and mission of V&E; the new Enology Extension effort and how our Alumni can participate; exciting details on ther new state-of-the-art, carbon-negative, winery to be completed in 2010, and an overview of the new research vineyard, including new rootstock and scion choices that you'll want to hear about.
The official groundbreaking for the new LEED Platinum winery, and a chance to discuss it with the principals involved in its inception
Tours of the new V&E facilities and labs at the RMI, and tours of the newly-planted, adjacent research vineyard with Dr Andy Walker
The new winery will include a dedicated wall covered in tiles individually designed and created by V&E Alumni. The Reunion Celebration will be the first opportunity to create your own personalized tile for the wall. This is your chance to really leave your mark in the Department's history in a very personal way. We'll supply the tiles and paint.......the rest is up to you.
A fascinating tasting of wines found in the dusty bowels of the antiquated cellar in the Enology Building. This will include research wines, donated bottles and, for the first time outside class, we'll be allowing you to taste some of the Guymon brandies, in barrel since the 1950's.
We want to publicly celebrate our Alumni on this day, and welcome a new era of inclusion and cooperation with them and the entire wine industry. This will mean allow you an opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way to the teaching, research and outreach future of the UCD Department of Viticulture and Enology. We will be looking to our Alumni to help us move forward successfully into a new vision of excellence.
A luncheon, catered by everyone's old favorite The Buckhorn, and many and varied alumni-produced wines.
This will also be the first time we've publicly displayed our entire collection of alumni photos that you've been sending us over the last year. We now have over 350 that you'll all be able to view, both up-close, individually, and as a rotating video display on large screens. Want to know what you all looked like in the 70's, 80's and 90's? Well, we have also digitized all those group Polaroids that Dr Kunkee took in his VEN217 classes. So, you'll be able to compare those old photos to the current's really a great laugh!
