| Job Description | Overview: Manage sensory and statistical support functions for the J.R. Simplot Company. Develop, implement, and maintain sensory programs for product development, technology assessment, quality control, and product improvement. Lead, promote, and execute experimental design as a product development tool. Train technical staff in the use of statistical techniques for discovery, decision making, and process control. Manage a sensory staff, including descriptive and discrimination panels. Serve on cross-functional teams and work with multiple business functions. Serve as a key consultant for both external and internal customers to identify opportunities, set clear and actionable objectives, design experiments, analyze data, and communicate recommendations. Responsibilities: -Provide training of technical staff in basic statistical methods, including experimental design (DOE), process capabilities, measurement of accuracy and error in methods, statistical process control, and analysis of variance. Provide practical guidance in differentiating results (significant versus important). -Designs and manages implementation of sensory training programs. Assist with the development and training of associates, support staff, and plant staff. -Verify compliance to factory sensory program requirements. -Implementation of sensory specifications in production facilities. Work on cross-functional teams to ensure success of plant sensory initiatives. -Manage sensory research in support of quality systems, product development, and process initiatives. -Expertise in planning, execution, and analysis of sensory research. Mastery of: design, discrimination testing, descriptive analysis, affective testing, and questionnaire design. -Effectively present insights and recommendations to product development teams, product/process improvement teams, and customers at the Director and VP level. -Lead and guide implementation and development of sensory-related quality initiatives supporting product lifecycle preservation. -Manage sensory site and staff-includes managing the maintenance and development of the trained descriptive sensory panel. -Develop screening and performance criteria regarding precision, sensitivity, and repeatability of panel output. Oversee the recruiting and training of new panelists. -Developing new methods when appropriate. Management of the sensory testing locations and assets. -Planning, budgeting, and forecasting of sensory operations that are approved or in-line with corporate requirements and that are within budget. -Planning for ongoing sensory operations. -Manage customer projects from design to report/presentation stage. -Develop appropriate statistical methodologies to resolve or clarify issues or problems. -Tailor statistical analysis of complex data sets into an easily understandable format. -Effectively offer perceptions, insights, and recommendations to internal and external customers. Education, Experience, and Knowledge: ?Education: -MS Degree in Food Science. ?Experience: -Five plus years of industry or related experience and/or training. ?Knowledge: -Ideal candidate will be trained in Sensory and Statistics. -Proven experience in statistical skills-including working knowledge of multivariate statistics, non-parametric statistics, and experimental design. -Excellent knowledge of computers. Experience with statistical software, including demonstrated programming skills. |
