Memorial Service Planned for Professor Emeritus Ralph Kunkee

To all V&E Alumni and Friends:

Dr Kunkee's memorial service will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 7, 2012 in the UC Davis Conference Center, on the south end of the UC Davis campus. It will be followed by a celebration of Ralph’s life in the Sensory Building of the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine & Food Science (walking distance from the Conference Center).  RSVP required. Sign up at We will have food and wine, and you're invited to some of your own wine to share, if you wish.  Please bring your favorite Ralph stories to share.

You MUST register for the memorial and celebration so we are sure to have enough food and wine for everyone. It is, of course, free of charge. We'll be handing out name badges that will be your ticket into both events, so please register everyone in your party.

If you are interested in making a donation in Ralph’s memory, his family has suggested three preferences:

(1)    UC Davis Department of Viticulture and Enology (we will be establishing a new fund in Ralph’s honor):  Checks can be made out to the “UC Regents” and mailed to the Department of Viticulture and Enology, University of California, One Shields Avenue, Davis, CA 95616, with a note “in memory of Prof. Ralph Kunkee.”

(2)    Yolo Hospice:  Checks can be mailed to: Yolo Hospice, PO Box 1014, Davis, CA 95617 with a note “in memory of Dr Ralph Kunkee”

(3)    The American Cancer Society:  Their donation website is here:

To keep up to date on this event and others in the future, please visit the Department’s Facebook page and join our LinkedIn group.

We, in the Department of Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis, would like to thank all of you for your support and kind messages through this difficult time for all of us. We hope to see a big crowd of friends and colleagues on January 7!!

Best Regards,
