Dr Vernon Singleton is Inducted into 2011 Vintners' Hall of Fame
Congratulations, Dr Singleton!!
Dr Vernon Singleton, who retired in 1991 after almost 35 years in UC Davis' Department of Viticulture and Enology, will be inducted into the 2011 Vintners' Hall of Fame on Feb. 21, 2011 at the Culinary Institute of America, in St Helena. For all of us who have studied with him, learned from him and benefited from his counsel all these years, this award is especially meaningful and so richly deserved.
Dr Singleton's groundbreaking research involving phenolics and oxidation in wine was years ahead of the current surge of interest in these compounds internationally. He has published over 220 technical articles and reviews, 4 textbooks and produced several patents. He has accumulated professional and industry awards too numerous to appreciate here. In 2008, the ASEV symposium "Phenolic Substances in Grapes and Wine", honored Dr Singleton for his outstanding and influential career in wine phenolic chemistry. The speakers and presenters were among the worldwide leaders in wine and winegrape research.
So we'd all like to take this opportunity to thank him again for all his invaluable expertise and his ever-present smile. And to say "Congratulations, again, Dr Singleton". You just keep giving back.
