Venerated for its commitment to exploring viticulture and enology, UC Davis has a nearly 100-year history of studying wine. Construction of the new Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science, located near the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts on the northern side of campus, began last year; the center is expected to be completed by early 2008. The viticulture and enology department currently has facilities in Wickson Hall. One portion of the building, its wine cellar, is located underground. Most students don't have the opportunity to visit this 60,000-bottle capacity cellar, so The California Aggie recently took a private tour of the cellar to learn more about viticulture and enology at UC Davis.
