Robert M. Pool

Professor of Viticulture at Cornell University passes from cancer.

The Department of Viticulture and Enology is sad to note the death of Dr. Robert M. Pool, who died of cancer on Saturday, June 10, 2006. He passed at home in New York, surrounded by family and loved ones. Pool fought his disease valiantly, like he did everything in life.

Pool’s ties to UCD are deep; he was born in Sacramento, California and grew up in the Bay Area. He received his Bachelors’ degree in enology in 1962 and his master’s in food science in 1969. Pool received his PhD from Cornell in 1974 and returned to Davis to teach viticulture from 1974-1988. In 1988, he accepted a faculty position at Cornell where he continued to distinguish himself. Robert Pool will be missed by his many friends on the Davis campus.

Services will be held at 2pm, Thursday June 15th at the Presbyterian Church in Geneva, New York. Anyone wishing to send an email or fax to be shared with the family should send them to: Alan Taylor at 315-787-2224 or email agt1@cornell.edu.
