Title Harvest Internship
Employer Côte West
Employment Location Oakland, CA
Company Description Côte West is a small urban winery in Oakland, CA. We produce less than 1,500 cases annually with fruit from long-standing grower relationships in Sonoma. In 2018 we will work with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Counoise (rosé), Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc. We might even tinker with making a Pét-Nat.
Type Seasonal F/T
Pay Scale $18 / hour
Employment Start Date mid to late August
Employment End Date early to mid October
Job Description This internship will be a unique hands-on experience with exposure to many facets of the winemaking process. You will work very closely with the winemaker and owner of Côte West (a UC Davis alum). Responsibilities include:

Setting up crush equipment
Grape receival
Cleaning of press
Sanitation of crush equipment
Punch downs
Brix and temperature measurements of active fermentations
Transfering of juice and wine with pumps
Basic lab work
Top barrels
Barrel work

Candidate must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, and work 6 or 7 days a week through harvest.

The ideal candidate will have some experience working in a wine cellar. Familiarity with wine pumps and barrel work is preferrable. The Côte West harvest is usually very demanding from late August / early September through the end of September, and gradually winds down. Forklift experience helpful, but not required.

We are looking for someone who pays attention to detail, has a willingness to learn, can work long hours at the peak of harvest, and is enthusiastic on the job even if everyone is tired. We’re looking for a creative problem solver who can both take direction, but also work independently. Excellent opportunity for someone interested in launching a small wine brand to wear lots of hats and get exposure to all aspects of the business.

Not required, but if you’re interested, outside of peak harvest there could also be opportunities to work beyond the cellar including tasting room, marketing, and sales.
