|Job Description|| We are seeking two interns for the upcoming 2018 harvest. Do to our proximity to UC Davis, we are willing to accommodate the right canditate(s) if you are still a student. We understand that fall quarter starts in mid to late September and are willing to be flexible with your hours when classes begin. However, this is a very busy time for the winery so please understand we will be asking you to commit to hours that will make your life somewhat inconvenient until late-October/mid-November. Hours at the winery can be long (10-12 hours) and we run two shifts, meaning your days may start at 6:00 am if you're on the morning shift, or end at 2:00 am if you're on swing shift.|
The ideal candidate will be looking to gain experience in both the laboratory and the cellar.
Routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment
Perform basic wet chemistry analysis on fruit, juice, fermentations, and finished wines
Daily fermentation checks
Collect tank and barrel samples for further analysis
Record keeping and data entry
Crushpad work – fruit sorting, additions, destemmer/press operation, cleaning and sanitizing equipment
Cellar work – punchdowns/pumpovers, additions, cleaning, barrel topping, wine movement, winery housekeeping, and helping to drag big, long, heavy hoses all over the darn place!
Harvest work can be physically challenging and it is helpful to not be afraid of heights, but you will gain great work experience, get to work with a highly respected winemaker, and be part of a experienced, professional and fun winemaking team.
