Job Description Boxwood Estate Winery in Middleburg, Virginia is seeking a production assistant for immediate hire, with potential for work beyond the 2017 harvest season. The production assistant will report directly to our Winemaker and Vineyard Manager on a daily basis. The position will be a great learning opportunity as each day will prove to be different from the last, and the breadth of exposure to grape growing and winemaking will be second to none.
The position is full time beginning in June and lasting until the end of the 2017 harvest season, though there is a possibility to continue on as a full-time employee beyond 2017.

Key Qualifications:
At least one vintage of winemaking experience is a requisite
Punctuality and passion are key – willingness and eagerness to learn are essential
Ability to operate a vineyard tractor with PTO and various farm implements
Fundamental understanding of the winemaking process – background in Chemistry is a plus
Ability to walk/stand for extended hours - 45 hours during the week and more during Harvest time
Fast learner and the ability to follow instructions – independent and takes ownership for his/her work
Team Player in a constantly changing workplace
Spanish fluency is helpful
General duties and tasks will include:
Bi-Weekly analysis of wines in barrel, including wet chemistry, wine adjustment, and topping.
General cellar sanitation, including tank cleaning, barrel washing, and equipment preparation.
Sampling of wines on an as needed basis, especially ahead of key blending dates.
Vineyard work, including canopy management, maturity sampling, scouting, spraying and mowing
Supply orders and maintenance of chemical inventory for both the winery and the vineyard
During harvest- fermentation monitoring and sample analysis, picking, sorting, punchdowns, pressing.
