Job Description Job Summary The Laboratory Analyst performs daily quality control measurements in support of all product lines of the Cork Supply Group. This position operates and calibrates instrumentation (GC-MS and HPLC) to generate data for customer reports, and other samples as necessary. The Laboratory Analyst supports the R&D program with analysis of experimental samples.
Key Responsibilities
•Quantify haloanisoles for cork and oak product lines as specified in incoming inspection and in-house screeningprocedures.
•Quantify oak aroma compounds for assurance of product consistency and for customer barrel profiling.
•Assist with R&D projects including customer trials and internal objectives.
•Prepare Internal Technical Reports and communicate results to relevant parties.
•Prepare Customer (External) Technical Reports and communicate cork screening data or oak aroma profiling results.
•Enter incoming analysis or non-conformity related results into Navision for historical data visibility.
•Support resolution of product non-conformities when applicable.
•Active in continual improvements on Quality Control procedures, sampling, and throughput.
•Keep inventory of lab consumables and place lab orders.
•Promote company image through customer visits, educational events, and sales force training.
•Manage lab hazardous waste collection generated by the laboratory.
•Comply with all company policies and procedures.
•Focuses on continuous improvement and advocates for positive change.
Knowledge, Skill and Experience
•Bachelor’s degree in a science related field (i.e. Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, and Enology).
•Master of Science is preferred, but not required.
•At least 3 years of relevant laboratory experience.
•Strong knowledge of separation sciences, including gas chromatography – mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and high-proficiency liquid chromatography (HPLC).
•Strong knowledge of sensory science within the cork and/or wine industry.
•Strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAVsoftware or other ERP system a plus.
•Excellent writing and math skills.
•Strong analytical skills, critical thinker, attention to detail, and able to work independently.
•Able to prioritize and meet deadlines with strong time management and organizational skills.
•Able to contribute to a positive work atmosphere by effectively communicating with employees, clients, customers and co-workers.
•Passionate about the wine industry, actively participate in educational opportunities, read professional publications andup-to-date on trends in the industry.
