|Employment Location||Geyserville, CA|
|Company Description||Zialena is a family owned, fourth generation winery in Geyserville, CA that focuses on premium Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel from our Alexander Valley estate. We have a brand new winery and tasting room, and all the Ferrari equipment that goes with it. For the 2017 harvest, we will be making about 3,000 cases of wine, almost entirely from estate fruit. In addition to cab and zin, we will be producing Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and a rose from Sangiovese.|
|Employment Start Date||~Aug 15|
|Employment End Date||~Nov 15|
|Job Description|| We are a small team, with a winemaker, assistant winemaker, and you, our one intern. This means that there will be a lot of opportunity and exposure for our intern, from labwork, to cellar work, to daily tasting with the winemakers.|
What is required of you:
-at least one previous harvest
-a degree or current study of viticulture and enology desired
-forklift experience preferred, but not required
-a willingness to do everything: cleaning drains, contributing to tasting discussions, running lab analysis, doing pumpovers, monitoring fermentations, making additions, recordkeeping, sorting fruit, etc.
-ability to handle physical labor for long hours at times
-ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs repeatedly
-ability to work a handful of weekends from about August 15th through November 15th
-you must provide transportation and housing
If you can handle all that, then here’s what we can offer you:
-the opportunity to take the next step towards becoming a winemaker by leaving Zialena with a strong winemaking skillset. Have you worked a harvest where you did a lot of grunt work and didn’t learn much? Me too, I’ve been there. While there will still be a lot of cleaning and grunt work, I will make sure to expose you to all aspects of the winemaking process so you can leave Zialena after harvest confident in your winemaking abilities.
