Job Description The Viticulture Intern will work directly with the viticulture department at Winemakers LLC, participating in all aspects of high-quality wine grape production. This position will likely run May through mid-October, but there is some flexibility in terms of the start and end date depending upon the needs of qualified candidate. In general, this will be a Mon-Fri position, 40 hours per week; however, there is the potential for hours to fluctuate slightly due to weather and timing of cultural practices.

Typical growing season tasks:
• Spur/bud counts
• Cluster counts and weights
• Weekly detailed cluster analysis to facilitate accurate prediction of lag phase.
• Shoot elongation measurements
• Petiole sampling
• Weekly scouting/field reports detailing pest pressure and abiotic stress in addition to general observations
• Some data entry required
• Working with hand crews to ensure quality and timeliness of cultural practices
• Assisting in sampling and other harvest duties

Candidates will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves and gain experience with all aspects of wine grape production at our three vineyard sites in Washington state, with occasional travel to our Idaho vineyard as well (company paid).

ATV use is required during data collection and field scouting, however no prior experience is necessary (training will be provided).
• Enrolled in a viticulture program or other program related to plant sciences
• Strong communication skills
• Be willing to work extended hours outside in all weather conditions
• Be able to stand, bend, and walk for extended hours
• Be able to operate and ATV on rough terrain for long periods of time
• Able to lift 50 lbs
• Reliable transportation (driving to vineyard sites on a daily basis is required)
• Competency with computers and MS Office
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Have a good attitude, willingness to learn, and need minimal supervision
