Company Description Blue Valley Vineyard and Winery in Delaplane, Virginia, a 6,000 case facility completed in 2014, is seeking an advanced Intern/Assistant Winemaker to work in all aspects of production starting May 1 and working through our 2017 harvest.

Job Description Position responsibilities:
Overseeing cellar production under the supervision of our Director of Winemaking, John Irving Levenberg (formerly of Paul Hobbs Winery).

Responsibilities Include:
• Plans harvest schedule with Director of Winemaking
• Selects cooperages and blends wines
• Performs sanitation of all equipment and facility
• Performs basic cellar QC, including but not limited to:
o Filtration
o Basic lab analysis
o Forklift operation
o Operation of all crush/harvest equipment
o Inventory and record keeping on an as-needed basis
• Assists Director of Winemaking with in-house tastings and blending trials
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Writes and processes orders for all production-related tasks
• Conducts educational tours and tastings as needed
• Contributes to the continuous improvement of the winemaking processes and procedures
• Ability to place orders with vendors for harvest season supplies

Other Information Qualifications:
• Degree in Enology or related science field
• Minimum of two years of cellar experience
• Excellent communication skills
• Good organoleptic senses and a strong desire to learn
• “All hands on deck” attitude
• Exceptional palate
• Proficiency in basic computer software (e.g. Word/Pages, Excel/Numbers, etc.)
• Ability to write tasting notes
